Day 5 - Tournament Update
Sheffield & District Closed Senior Tournament 2026 — Day 5 Match Report Beauchief Tennis Club, Thursday 11 June 2026
Despite the threat of rain that had been forecast throughout the day, Day 5 of the Sheffield & District Closed Senior Tournament delivered a full programme of evening matches at Beauchief, with ten results across three sessions taking the draws firmly into the business end of the week.
Womens Singles
The women's singles semi-finals moved a step closer as top seed Louise Holtum made her mark on the draw in impressive fashion, beating Lydia Drabble 6-3 6-1 to book her place in the final. Holtum was in commanding form throughout and will be a strong favourite heading into Saturday. She will await the winner of the other semi-final as the draw shapes up nicely for the weekend.
Handicap Events
The Women's Singles Handicap semi-finals both produced clear results. Emma Hall beat Georgina Johnson 6-0 7-5 to advance, while Georgina Anderson came through comfortably against Sarah Munday 6-2 6-1 to set up what promises to be a competitive final between the two.
In the Women's Doubles Handicap semi-final, Annabel Biggin and Vicky Hukin were too strong for Jayne Hale and Louise Moglia, winning 6-3 6-4 to progress to the final.
The XD Handicap produced two contrasting results. Richard and Phoebe Lockham came through a tight three-setter against Mark Gray and Megan Green, winning 6-7 7-6 6-1 in what was one of the more competitive matches of the evening. Jack Horgan and Louise Moglia continued their impressive run, beating John Davis and Sarah Munday 6-1 6-4 in the quarter-final to reach the semi-finals. John Cundall and Beth Watson, continuing their fine form from Day 4, produced a polished performance to beat Daniel Smith and Dawn Stephenson 6-2 6-2 to advance to the final.
Over 45s
Daniel Carnie [1] continued his dominant run in the Men's Singles 45+, beating third seed Dave Mangham 6-3 6-1 to reach the final. Carnie has been the standout performer in this event all week and will be the one to beat come the weekend.
Mixed Doubles
The mixed doubles quarter-finals saw some excellent tennis played across the evening. The persistent Sheffield drizzle clearly had an effect on the scheduling, with top seeds Conor Tordoff and Chloe Gallagher and second seeds Jason Oldham and Louise Holtum both taking their quarter-finals indoors at Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre. Tordoff and Gallagher beat David Gardner and Charlotte King 6-2 6-4, while Oldham and Holtum were equally convincing against Adam Pyatt-Coppell and Karla Hernandez, winning 6-1 6-2. Back out at Beauchief, Josh Bows and Ellen Plaskitt showed plenty of fighting spirit to come through a tight three-setter against fourth seeds Thomas Everest Wilcock and Lydia Drabble, winning 1-6 6-3 10-6 in a match tiebreak to progress.
Looking Ahead to Friday
After a difficult day weather-wise on Thursday, Friday is shaping up to be a much more welcoming prospect. The forecast shows a largely dry and bright evening, with temperatures reaching 19°C and rain chances dropping to just 13% by the afternoon and even lower through the evening. It promises to be a superb evening of tennis at Beauchief.
With semi-finals across multiple events on the card, Friday night is the perfect opportunity to come down to the club and watch some of the best players in Sheffield and District in action. Play gets underway at 18:00 and entry is free, so bring the family and enjoy the tennis and a friendly welcome at the bar!
